Russia's White Sea is a great spot for winter ice diving boasting an exciting adventure cited as one of the best sites in the world for diving under the ice. Ice hummocks and cavities, soft corals, star fish, shrimps, underwater rocks and rifts are all visible at up to 50 metres.
Seals and whales may also be encountered along with cod, wolf fish and sea angels. Waters may be as cool as -40C under ice up to 1.5 metres thick. Ice diving takes place from February to April.
