Finland is home to many storm battled shipwrecks including vessels dating back to Viking times. Fairly shallow depths in The Baltic make these wrecks easy to explore. Due to the low salinity in the waters most of the wrecks are very well preserved.
Wrecks include the very well preserved St. Michael a Russian merchant ship dating back to 1747 with objects on board including a rococo carriage and exquisite tableware. A host of other wrecks dating from 1000AD lie waiting for exploration, including steamers, sail boats, war ships and icebreakers. Wreck diving can only be done through a licensed dive centre and with coast guard permission.
