Diving in the Dominican Republic is a year round tropical extravaganza although June to September is often cited as the best months for diving with October to May bringing the rain. Visibility is a good 15-30 metres.
Expect to see literally hundreds of tropical fish and plant life amongst the coral rich waters alongside whale sharks, mantas and dolphins especially at La Caleta. Manatees are also spotted in the mangrove sharks whilst February to March sees the arrival of humpback whales in the Bay of Samana. Cave diving is also popular through a maze of tunnels and caves lining the coast line in Bora Chica. Shipwrecks are also worth a look in Santo Domingo with wrecks including a tugboat.
